What it looks like to be a member:

For far too long, church membership was spoken in terms of "what the church can offer you and your family." By attempting to sell themselves in this way, local churches have fed into a system of consumer Christianity. Church rolls are filled with half-hearted, nominal believers who do little more than come to a building once per week where they wait to be inspired while scoring the performance of the professional ministers and worship leaders. 

Dear friends, this was never meant to be the case. 

Followers of Jesus Christ are called, not only to commit ourselves fully and completely to Him, but to similarly give ourselves over to each other, His body, the Church. At the moment of your new birth, the Holy Spirit gifted you. These gifts are not meant to be used in solitude, but rather for the common good and building up of the whole body to which you now belong (Ephesians 4:11-16). 

When we press on toward this, God's design for His Church, (each of us dying to ourselves, selflessly ministering and serving and giving and worshiping and truly comitting to live together under the full authority of God's Word) we fulfill our purpose in glorifying Him. 

It is only then that we can rightly call ourselves the Church.

And it is only there that we shall find the blessings which come from true and lasting unity under the headship of Jesus Christ our Lord.

In light of this, whether you have been in a committed relationship with First Baptist Church of Crosby for decades or are considering joining your life to this faith family for the very first time, it is critical that you have a clear, Biblical picture of who we are and what is expected of each and every member.
